Ariadna Galus is the HR Development Coordinator at LVMH Perfumes & Cosmetics MEA, where she plays a pivotal role in nurturing the professional growth and development of employees across the Middle East and Africa region. With a passion for helping individuals reach their full potential, Galus designs and implements training programs, conducts performance evaluations, and collaborates with managers to identify areas for skill enhancement. Her journey into the field of HR began during her studies, where she pursued a degree in Human Resources Management.

Through internships and part-time roles in HR departments, Galus gained valuable hands-on experience and developed a deep understanding of HR principles and practices. It was these early experiences that solidified her passion for HR and set her on the path to a fulfilling career in the field.

For young professionals aspiring to pursue a career in HR, my advice would be to cultivate a diverse skill set that encompasses both technical expertise and interpersonal skills. Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and best practices, and seek opportunities to gain practical experience through internships or volunteer work. Additionally, developing strong communication, problem-solving, and emotional intelligence skills will be invaluable in navigating the complexities of human resource management.

One common misconception that young professionals may have about working in HR is that it primarily involves administrative tasks or policing policies. In reality, HR encompasses a broad range of responsibilities, including talent management, organizational development, and strategic workforce planning. It's a dynamic and multifaceted field that requires a blend of analytical thinking, creativity, and empathy.

While formal education in the fashion industry can certainly be beneficial, particularly for roles in design or merchandising, it's not always a prerequisite for working in HR within the fashion industry. What's more important is having a solid foundation in HR principles and practices, along with a genuine passion for the industry. When choosing what to study, students should focus on acquiring transferable skills such as communication, problem-solving, and project management, which are applicable across various industries.

Some of the worst practices I've seen in interviews include candidates being unprepared or disengaged, lacking basic knowledge about the company or role they're applying for, and exhibiting unprofessional behavior such as arriving late or being overly casual in their demeanor. It's crucial for candidates to approach interviews with professionalism, enthusiasm, and a genuine interest in the opportunity.
